One thing I have noticed when it comes to Doctor Who, that many of the people who don’t ship The Doctor+Rose or who don’t think The Doctor was in love with her, are people who skipped Nine. I’m not saying all the people, but a good lot of them seem to have only seen Rose with Ten. And I think that is one of the big problems.
You can definitely see the love and infatuation with Ten and Rose. But if you skipped Nine, or didn’t really pay attention to that series, then you’re missing a whole different side—of the doctor, of Rose, of their relationship, of their dynamic. The way he treated her, spoke to her, the way he looked at her. And you do get all that with Ten if you pay attention, but when you skip Nine you end up missing the beginning and the progression. The growth. And you miss how strong their connection really was in comparison to many of the other companions who were only around for their doctor without being around after one of his regenerations. Where the Doctor changes.
Rose was there for that. She had been with him before he regenerated. And after he changed she still stuck by him. It wasn’t easy and she had her doubts, but she didn’t walk away. And neither did her family. There was a bond from the beginning with Nine and Rose (which we now know came from her likeness appearing to War Doctor) and that bond was genuine and honest. Neither of them pretended to be someone they weren’t. She didn’t crumble to the ground every time he snapped at her. She knew who he was and what he was about.
And The Doctor wanted her there. Both Nine and Ten. They kept her around, fought for her, and didn’t baby her. They always cared and feared for her safety and well being, but they never babied her or treated her like she wasn’t able to handle it. She didn’t require constant apologies. And Rose stuck with him as long as she physically could…until the worlds literally ripped themselves apart, forcing either her body to get sucked into a void of nonexistence, or trapped in a parallel world separated from each other. And The Doctor let her. Because even tho he knew how bad things could get in his reality, he always had hope and faith in her.
But if I believe in one thing… just one thing… I believe in her.
Nine+Rose built their fucked up worlds around each other, saving each other both emotionally and physically. If you skip that series or breezed through it, then you miss the generation of their relationship and how their connection continues on through the changes. Just like The Doctors regeneration, their relationship regenerated too. And it was just as important.
friendly reminder that in the first episode of the new doctor who series “Rose” nine happens to look in the mirror and say “Could’ve been worse.”, so its the first time hes seen his new body since the regeneration. which means that after he takes off as the war doctor at the end of “The Day of the Doctor” the probably first thing he does (since it was here that he began transforming) is save rose from those mannequins!
